From Gaza to Medical School in Cairo
I am Mahmoud, from Gaza. I write these lines with a singular goal in mind: to transform from a witness to suffering into a creator of smiles. My dream of studying dentistry in Egypt is not merely an academic ambition; it is a lifeline for my professional and humanitarian future.
Why Egypt? And why is this journey essential?
My goal is to enroll in the Faculty of Dentistry at a prestigious Egyptian institution, Cairo University, where the curriculum excels at bridging basic sciences with advanced clinical application.
Costs: Tuition fees for international students are approximately $6,000 per year, in addition to living expenses, housing, books, and medical supplies, estimated at $500–$700 per month.
Why am I confident? Securing these funds means obtaining a "transit visa" toward a stable academic environment. Once financial support is provided, I will be able to obtain exit permits, enroll in the university, and focus entirely on channeling my energy from mere survival into academic excellence in laboratories and clinics.
My passion began when I realized that dentistry is, par excellence, a "medical art." It was not a single moment that inspired me, but a series of experiences where I saw how a simple dental treatment could restore a person's self-confidence.
I am fascinated by Oral Histology and Dental Anatomy. I find joy in studying the complexities of root
canal anatomy and the properties of enamel and dentin. I aspire to specialize in cosmetic dentistry and dental implants, as I believe that restoring oral function is synonymous with restoring a patient's dignity. My command of scientific terminology and my understanding of sterilization protocols and adhesive dentistry are not accidental; they are the result of extensive reading that has led me to view the world through the lens of a medical microscope. More than just a student, I belong to a proud family from the heart of Gaza, raised on the values of patience and diligence. My father, Basem, and my mother, Naila, are my pillars at every step. My family gives me the strength to carry on. We used to live in our humble home in Beit Hanoun, in the far north of the Gaza Strip, which was filled with love and tranquility until the genocide began.
Now, I am a displaced person living in a shelter in western Gaza.However, my life is not limited to medical books. I am a person of diverse interests:Art: I find in drawing an outlet for expressing precision, which enhances the "manual dexterity" that forms the backbone of any skilled dentist.Sports: I practice bodybuilding, which has taught me discipline, patience, and persistence in achieving long-term goals.Creativity: I love writing and music, finding solace and a way to organize my thoughts amidst the chaos.
I am not asking for mere financial aid; I am asking you to be partners in building a doctor who will one day carry the message of hope and the lessons of suffering I learned in Gaza, translating them into advanced medical care for all who need it.
